Yellow Fever

No, I'm not talking about an influx in caution flags! I want to commend NASCAR on what they have done with the paint schemes for chase drivers! The yellow on these cars takes me back to the days of the Winston No Bull 5. Watching Dale Earnhardt driving through the field at Talladega with his red-numbered 3 car is something that I'll never forget.

I was lucky enough to attend the race at Chicagoland. It was easy to look for the yellow numbers and see where the chase drivers were running. It distinguished them from the rest of the field as they should be. If a casual fan is watching the race at home they can reference the ticker at the top of the screen with the chase drivers highlighted in yellow. At the track it isn't quite as easy. Sure, there is the Sprint Vision but most fans are watching the action on the track.

I would like to see something similar with the trucks and Nationwide cars. The Nationwide Dash 4 Cash does something similar with a blue windshield header and spoiler. This could also be utilized as the championship battle winds down. For instance, in the last five races recognize the drivers who are still mathematically alive with a special color scheme. If everyone is mathematically eliminated before Homestead so be it. It can be used to honor the champion in the final race or races. This is just another small change NASCAR can make to keep nostalgia alive while staying relevant with new fans of the sport.
